“I want to say MS Dhoni but…”: Sreesanth Named Best Captain He Played Under

Former Indian fast bowler S Sreesanth recently expressed his admiration for Rahul Dravid, naming him the best captain he had the privilege to play under during his cricket career. While Sreesanth achieved significant success under MS Dhoni’s leadership, winning the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 World Cup, he highlighted how Dravid provided him with a unique opportunity to prove himself internationally, setting him apart from Dhoni.

Speaking to Sportskeeda, Sreesanth revealed his deep respect for MS Dhoni and Rahul Dravid, acknowledging his World Cup triumphs with the former. However, he emphasized that Rahul Dravid stood out as the best captain in his eyes. Sreesanth appreciated Dravid’s willingness to give him a chance in international cricket, even as a relatively new bowler. He noted that Dravid could have opted for more established bowlers but instead chose to back him, granting him the break he needed.

Sreesanth shared his sentiment: “(On the best captain he has ever played under) I want to say MS Dhoni and naturally so because I was lucky enough to win two World Cups under him. But for me, it’s Rahul Dravid. He could have easily said, ‘I don’t want this new bowler. Give me my trusted one.’ But he backed me and gave me a break in international cricket. I am confident not many will agree with what I have said.”
Dravid’s Role as Indian Head Coach:

Rahul Dravid, renowned as “The Wall” during his playing days, currently serves as the head coach of the Indian cricket team. With India opting to rest some key players for the first two ODIs against Australia, Dravid’s role in nurturing and guiding the team’s talent is expected to be crucial. As the September 28 deadline approaches for finalizing the World Cup squads, players like Washington Sundar and Ravichandran Ashwin have a last opportunity to leave a notable impression on the team management and selectors, especially with Axar Patel’s injury status being monitored closely.
