‘I want to be the best at everything I do…’, England legend James Anderson Opens Up On His Retirement

In March 2022, James Anderson was on a Caribbean tour, which nearly caused him to hang up his boots on his cricketing career. Following that, he spoke candidly in an interview about his future challenges and how the board’s decision would affect the course of his career.

Even statistics support the claim that Anderson is one of the best bowlers of all time. He is one of the greatest in the world at deceiving batters with the proper line and length. When the ball becomes a little stale, he can swing the ball in both ways and be deadly with his reverse swing.

There have always been rumors about the legendary English bowler’s eventual retirement from international cricket. After he was rejected from the West Indies tour squad, many people believed his career in international cricket was over. He persevered and was given another chance to serve his country. He paid back the management’s trust, and now both the team and he are benefiting.

James Anderson talked on the BBC podcast about how he felt at that particular time. He said, “There was a moment when I thought that could be it. Is that it? Do they want to move on and get younger blood in? There was a bit of anger and disappointment. But I spoke to Greg quite a bit and I was just trying to make sense of it and not make any rash decisions.”

Then, the Lancashire hero discussed how, even after playing the game for close to 20 years, he still thinks that progress is always possible. He added, “I am not the complete bowler. I’ve not played the perfect game or bowled the perfect over. There are always things I think I can iron out. I want to be the best at everything I do; if I’m rubbish at something I’ll just give it up.”

Under the new leadership team of Brendon Mccullum and Ben Stokes, James Anderson has blossomed. In the most difficult circumstances, he bowled strong spells while taking 35 wickets at an average of 17.85. In Pakistan, he even shot a fifer, something he had never done before. He appears to be in great shape for a successful home season that includes the highly anticipated Ashes series, which, who knows, could end up being his final series
