Rohit Sharma finds it deeply troubling as the Indian side’s captain, as for the first in history, India could not perform against New Zealand and lost all the matches in the series, which came to a climax with a loss by 25 runs to the Kiwis in the third Test match played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. While addressing the press after the match, Rohit took the loss of the series on himself and further added that it was his mistake to have chosen to bat first after winning the toss in Bengaluru, the first test where the conditions were overcast, that condemned the series from the very start.
“I take full blame, beginning from the toss at Bengaluru and plenty of decisions taken wrongly in between. I have not been up to the task and that most likely put the finishing touches on the series for us,” claimed Rohit Sharma.
With Day 1 completely washed out in the first Test match in Bengaluru, Rohit Sharma decided to bat on winning the toss on the second day. It resulted in India being bowled all out for 46 runs scratch where it remains the lowest innings total at home.
From then on, India have most probable coped up and have seemed to be resistant in most of the games played New Zealand. You would wonder what advantage it would have encouraged, especially with the Indian batting being so patchy.
The last month has been particularly brutal for Rohit as well. The left-hander could make a mere 91 runs across the three Tests, which is lower than any other of those recognised Indian batters who participated in all three Tests.
Rohit has also been in wretched form scoring a meager total of 133 runs in 10 innings against Bangladesh and New Zealand respectively in the recently concluded home Tests at a dismal average of 13.30.
It has also been the case that Rohit is the first Indian captain to have lost four Tests at home since 1969.
It is still possible that, despite Rohit’s being in charge of India’s campaign for the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia, he will not be able to play in the first Test to be held in Perth because of personal issues.
