“I should be the first one who sits……” Virat’s Video Went Viral After BCCI Action On “Yo-Yo”

Currently, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has done a review meeting with head coach Rahul Dravid and skipper Rohit Sharma and discussed the poor performance of the Indian cricket team in 2022. Now BCCI has concluded and started thinking about implementing the previous “YO-YO” test and “DEXA” for the selection of the players in the national team.

After BCCI made this decision, a video of Virat Kohli with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi went viral. Virat discussed the “YO-YO” test with the PM in this video.

In the video, Virat explains the importance of the “Yo-Yo” test and how it will improve the athlete’s fitness level and be good for them and the team.

“This test was very important from a fitness point of view. If we talk about global fitness level, our fitness level is still low compared to other teams, and we want to take it up, which is a basic requirement,” Kohli had told PM Modi.

Further, he was asked whether the skipper of the team would also undergo such “Yo-Yo” tests; he replied that the skipper should go with the test, and if he failed, he shouldn’t be picked for the squad.

I’m the one who goes out to run first, and this is the condition that if I fail that I am also not available for selection. It is important to set that culture; it will improve overall fitness levels,” Virat further added.

Looking at the low performance of the Indian team in the previous year’s prestigious tournaments and multiple injuries to the Indian players. Now BCCI has decided to implement back the tests and selection criteria so that players will maintain their fitness. Furthermore, NCA and BCCI will look after selected players for the upcoming ODI World Cup and T20 World Cup 2024.
