“I don’t know why he isn’t fit…” Former Pakistani Skipper Slammed Rohit Sharma In Comparison With MS Dhoni

The 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) concluded with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) emerging as champions, securing their fifth title under the leadership of Mahendra Singh Dhoni. While Dhoni and Rohit Sharma are revered as two of the greatest captains in IPL history, former Pakistan skipper Salman Butt recently made an interesting comparison. In a YouTube live session, Butt commented on the contrasting fitness levels of Dhoni and Rohit, emphasizing the importance of fitness for a captain’s role.

When the topic of fitness was raised in the live session, Butt couldn’t help but chuckle before discussing the difference in fitness between Dhoni and Rohit Sharma. Butt believes that as the captain of the Indian cricket team, Rohit should be setting an example in all aspects, including fitness. According to Butt, leading by example and maintaining high fitness levels is crucial for a captain, as it allows them to demand the same from their teammates.

“There’s a world of difference between the two. Rohit Sharma has a big designation, and he’s the captain of India. He should lead by example, and fitness is very important. As a captain, when you are in a position to demand something from your teammates, you should have them yourself. You should be top of the line,” Butt said.

Butt did not delve into Dhoni’s fitness, as he focused on Rohit Sharma‘s potential for improvement. Butt suggested that Rohit could benefit from enhancing his fitness, improving his batting performance and boosting his confidence. Butt questioned why Rohit has not yet achieved the desired fitness level and suggested that the Indian captain might be aware of the reasons behind it.

“When you look at Rohit Sharma, you realize that fitness is one aspect where he can be much better. It will improve his batting and confidence as well. But we have been talking about it for a long time now. I don’t know why he isn’t fit enough. Maybe he knows the reason himself,” Butt further added.

Fitness has become an essential aspect of modern cricket, with teams emphasizing physical conditioning more. A captain’s fitness sets an example for the team, demonstrating discipline and commitment to the sport. Maintaining high fitness levels can also improve physical and mental performance on the field.
