“I don’t have…”Kumar Sangakkara Declines India Coaching Offer

Rajasthan Royals Director of Cricket Kumar Sangakkara becomes the latest to opt out of Team India’s coaching job. Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer have already stepped back from their designated roles.

The current director of cricket for the Rajasthan Royals, Kumar Sangakkara, rubbished all the claims that were made, saying that he was neither approached for the role nor has time to commit to a full-time coaching stint. Sangakkara said that he is happy with his role at the Rajasthan Royals.
In his post-match presentation after the Rajasthan Royals defeat against Sunrisers Hyderabad, which knocked them out of the IPL, Sangakkara was asked about Team India’s coaching job offer, to which he replied, “I haven’t received any approaches, and I can’t dedicate my time to a full-time coaching position in India.” I’m content with my time with the Royals; we’ll see how it continues.”
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has started looking at prominent personalities in the IPL for possible coaching positions, with Rahul Dravid scheduled to leave his position as Indian coach following the T20 World Cup and the conclusion of his extended contract. After their initial contracts expired in November of last year, the BCCI granted Dravid and his entire support crew an extension until the T20 World Cup.
Applications for the post of head coach for India must be submitted by May 27. Following a comprehensive examination of the applications, the BCCI will schedule interviews with the selected applicants and the Cricket Advisory Committee, comprising Sulakshana Naik, Ashok Malhotra, and Jatin Paranjape.
