How did Shah Rukh Khan’s support influence Gautam Gambhir’s decision to stay in KKR? Ex KKR skipper has his say

Two-time IPL winner and KKR’s mentor Gautam Gambhir went down memory lane, remembering how KKR’s co-owner Shahrukh Khan once helped him overcome his lean patch with the bat. The incident happened way back in the 2014 season of the IPL. Gambhir, who was the captain of the side, failed to perform well with the bat. He thought of dropping himself, and that’s when Shahrukh Khan requested that he not do so.

Under his captaincy, KKR has won two IPL titles, one in 2012 and another in 2014. Right now, he’s associated with KKR as the side’s mentor.

In KKR’s Knights dugout podcast, Gautam Gambhir said, “”I couldn’t score one run in four games. I’ve said it numerous times: I think he is the best owner I’ve worked with. It’s not because I’m now part of KKR or I was part of KKR.”

Gautam Gambhir further added, “I don’t think so. In seven years of me captaining KKR, we have had a cricketing conversation even for seven minutes, except for that patch that I was going through. At that time, we also had the conversation because I was on the verge of dropping myself. The only thing he told me was, ’till you’re here, you are not going to drop yourself’.”

Gambhir further went on to praise Shahrukh for the confidence that he showed in him.

Gautam Gambhir said, “Imagine someone, as an owner who himself has been such a big achiever, not even talking about cricket or asking you a single thing about your decision-making. He trusted your decision-making.”

Gambhir further added,I’m not saying I took all the right decisions. But he never questioned my decisions; that’s the trust he had in me.”
