With this win, MI sits fourth on the table with 16 points, but they still have a shot at the top spot. If they beat Punjab Kings and PBKS, Gujarat Titans, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru lose their remaining games, they could finish first.
After the match, MI captain Hardik Pandya praised the bowling skills of Mitchell Santner and Jasprit Bumrah, noting that their performance makes his job easier. MI scored 180 for five, thanks to Suryakumar’s unbeaten 73 off 43 balls. Santner took 3 wickets for just 11 runs, while Bumrah grabbed 3 for 12, dismissing Delhi for 121 in 18.2 overs. “I can trust them to bowl whenever I need, their control makes my job so much easier,” Pandya said after the game as it rained at the Wankhede Stadium. He added, “We would’ve been happy with 160, but the way Naman and Surya finished was great. Naman’s 24 off just 8 balls was impressive.”
On the other hand, Delhi Capitals’ stand-in captain Faf du Plessis reflected on their season, saying missing the playoffs was a sign of a tough campaign. DC fell short while chasing 181, getting bowled out for 121, losing by 59 runs. “It felt like David and Goliath going into the match. It’s good for team bonding,” du Plessis said. “Rizvi showed some potential today. But against a strong team like MI, you have to be on your game all the time. We started slow with the bat, which has been a theme for us this season. To finish in the top four in the IPL, you can’t afford to have off days.”
