‘He Will Imitate MS Dhoni In ODI World Cup 2023’, Harbhajan Singh Favours The Selection Of This Player For The Tournament

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) revealed the 15-player squad that will participate in the upcoming ODI World Cup scheduled for October-November. One of the major points of discussion centered around the selection of T20 sensation Suryakumar Yadav. Despite his outstanding performances in the shortest format of the game, his statistics in ODI cricket are very poor.

The wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson was also in contention for a middle-order position but the BCCI ultimately opted for Suryakumar over him.

Meanwhile, the former Indian off spinner, Harbhajan Singh expressed his support for the selectors’ decision to include Suryakumar Yadav in the squad over Sanju Samson. Harbhajan believes that this choice is the correct one, as Suryakumar is considered a more dependable option for fulfilling the middle-order batting role. He pointed out that batting in the No. 5 or 6 position can be challenging but the 32-year-old Suryakumar is better suited for this role compared to star players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

In a conversation with Star Sports, Harbhajan Singh said,”I feel Suryakumar Yadav is a complete, complete player. I don’t think the selectors have been harsh on Sanju Samson. I do feel Sanju is a very very good player, a quality player. But you can only select fifteen players. But picking Suryakumar over Sanju is the right call. Because the game that Suryakumar has in the middle is over[s], I don’t think Sanju has that game. Even though he goes for big shots from the first ball, the reliability Suryakumar gives you – he can score big. Sanju I feel plays the kind of cricket where there are a lot of chances that you get out.”

“Whereas Suryakumar, I know a lot of people ask what has he done in ODIs, but what he has done in T20s, if his innings is only going to be that long then I feel in that position, there isn’t a better player than Suryakumar in India. What he can do at that position, neither Virat [Kohli] can do, nor Sanju or Rohit Sharma. Because what he does it’s a difficult job, batting at [No.] 5-6. What [MS] Dhoni has done, what Yuvi [Yuvraj Singh] has done.”
