‘He Was Eating His Roti And Butter Chicken In A Corner’, Suresh Raina Reveals His Unheard Story About First Meet With MSD

Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni formed a memorable batting partnership that was crucial in strengthening India’s middle order in white-ball cricket. Their partnership played a crucial role in several important victories for the team and they often took the team out of challenging conditions.

Suresh Raina and MS Dhoni were not only long-time teammates on the Indian national cricket team but they also played together for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL from 2008 to 2021. Suresh Raina has played most of his cricket under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.

In the latest cricket conversation for Jio Cinema, Raina talked about his first meeting with Suresh Raina. Raina shared the first meeting with Dhoni in 2004 during a match between the East Zone and the Central Zone. Raina stated that then he heard about a talented player with long hair from Jharkhand. However, when he reached there he found him eating food in a corner sitting silently and he was so calm.

“We were hearing a lot about a player with long hair from Jharkhand known for hitting it out of the park consistently. This one day, we all were hanging around while Dhoni bhai quietly was eating his roti and butter chicken in a corner. Gyanu bhai saw him and said, ‘I really don’t think he’s going to do us any damage. He’s enjoying his food; let him do that,” said Raina at the Jio Cinema.

He further added,” From the word go, he hit gagan chumbhi (touching the sky) sixes, and Gyanu bhai had to eat his words.”

Both Raina and Dhoni retired from International cricket on the same day, that is, 15th August 2020.
