In the T20 World Cup of 2024, Wasim Jaffer, a former cricket player for India, wants his country to play daring cricket. Before India’s opening match against Ireland on June 5, Jaffer stated on his YouTube channel that a significant shift in India’s strategy for T20 World Cups was necessary.
In the last two or three World Cups that India had participated in, Jaffer believed that their strategy had not been courageous. India’s cautious top-order batting strategy from the previous two World Cups is mentioned in Jaffer’s remarks.
“India has to play a fearless brand of cricket which we have not done in the last 2-3 World Cups. We have to be a little more aggressive. Hardik Pandya’s role as an all-rounder is going to be quite crucial,” Jaffer said on his YouTube channel.
Speaking specifically about Virat Kohli, the former hitter expressed her wish that the veteran would keep up his aggressive hitting in the Indian Premier League. In the tournament’s 2024 edition, Kohli took home the Orange Cap and appeared to be in excellent form throughout the second part of the campaign.
“We don’t know if Virat Kohli will open or bat at No.3. One can only hope that he continues to play the aggressive brand of cricket which he showed during the Indian Premier League. He has done it for many years, and the batting will revolve around him,” Jaffer further added.
In their opening encounter in the T20 World Cup 2024, India takes on Ireland on June 5. The game will be held in New York’s Nassau Country International Stadium. On June 9, India will take on Pakistan at the same venue.
