Team India is going through a transition phase where the BCCI is experimenting with the team, especially with the captains. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, India showcased a remarkable performance in the recent 2023 ODI World Cup. They reached the final without losing a single match but in the crucial match, they had to lose the battle against the mighty Australians.
Former India fast bowler S Sreesanth has now come forward and drawn comparisons between the captaincy styles of Rohit Sharma and the legendary MS Dhoni. Under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, India has won all the major ICC trophies.
While talking to Firstpost, Sreesanth said, “He’s (Rohit) a street-smart cricketer and he’s somebody more like Dhoni bhai who doesn’t just get off the scene straight away. Even if the bowling’s not that great, even if the fielding’s not that great he makes sure he backs up the fielders, he backs up the fielders. It’s a great trend. Even in the World Cup, the players who were not playing were going to them asking for suggestions.”
“Yes he’s the captain but he’s been there as their brother and been there as their best friend. So it’s very important. So I think that’s one of the best qualities a captain can have,” Sreesanth added.
In IPL as well both MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma have won the title for a record five times, for their respective franchises Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians.
