The former left-handed batter of Pakistan Cricket Team Salman Butt has compared the young Indian batter Shubman Gill to tennis legend Roger Federer and said the young Indian batsman plays his shots with extraordinary elegance and grace.
When Gill scored 208 runs against New Zealand on Wednesday, Gill became the youngest cricketer to score a double century in ODI cricket. India went on to win the opening ODI by 12 runs despite some outstanding display of shots from Michael Bracewell batting at number 7.
Talking to his Youtube Channel Butt said,”Butt stated that because of the grace and elegance of Gill’s shots, he has been a huge fan of the player since he participated in the World Test Championship final against New Zealand.”
Butt said,”I have been a fan of Gill ever since he played in that World Test Championship final against New Zealand in England due to the time that he has and the elegance and the finish that he has in his strokes. You won’t see many touch players like him in international cricket. There is talk of only power hitters everywhere these days.”
The former captain of Pakistan then compared the 23-year-old to tennis great Roger Federer and added that the young player plays his shots with extraordinary accuracy and grace.
He later claimed that he has not seen someone playing like Gill at this age.
“This is a different kind of cricket that Gill is playing. It is almost like Roger Federer who plays his shots with incredible quality and touch. The finesse that Shubman Gill has shown in his game is very rare in players with such a young age. He is one of his kind and there is a glimpse of greatness.”
“It was not just about his touch shots but also about the way he scored his runs despite all major batters getting out at the other end at regular intervals. The way he picked and chose his shots and the bowlers to target showed that his game has already developed to a greater extent.”
