“He is one for the future…” Former India Selector Picks This Wicket-Kepper Batter For WTC Final

Former India selector Sarandeep Singh has preferred KS Bharat over Ishan Kishan as the wicketkeeper for the World Test Championship final against Australia. Sarandeep believes that Bharat’s experience and skills as a Test match wicketkeeper make him the obvious choice for the playing eleven.

He praised Bharat’s performance during the home series against Australia, where he showcased excellent wicketkeeping abilities. According to Sarandeep, Bharat’s consistency and familiarity with the Test format make him the right candidate.

Sandeep Singh said, “Ishan is an opener. I am not saying he is not capable of playing Tests. He is one for the future, but he opens in limited-overs cricket. Things will be different at number six. Yes, he goes hard from ball one, which can be counterproductive in England, but Bharat can also bat well and play shots also,” he reasoned.

Regarding Ishan Kishan, who is yet to make his Test debut, Sarandeep acknowledged his potential and the x-factor he can bring to the team. However, he believes that Kishan’s natural position is as an opener and that he should be considered for Test cricket in the future.

Sarandeep highlighted the differences in playing styles between limited-overs cricket, where Kishan opens the batting, and Test cricket, where he would likely bat at number six. He noted that Kishan’s aggressive approach might not be as effective in England and that Bharat, on the other hand, possesses both batting skills and the ability to play shots when required.

Sarandeep’s views suggest that while Kishan has the potential to excel in Test cricket, Bharat’s experience and suitability as a Test wicketkeeper make him the preferred choice for the World Test Championship final.

However, Sarandeep also acknowledged that Kishan’s time would come and that he should be considered for future opportunities in the game’s longer format. Ultimately, the decision on the wicketkeeper for the final rests with the team management, who will weigh the options and make the selection based on the team’s requirements and strategic considerations.
