The relationship between Indian swashbuckler batter Virat Kohli and former Indian skipper MS Dhoni isn’t hidden from the world. Their bromance was always a point of attraction for cricket fans when they were on the field. But now MS Dhoni is retired from all formats of cricket except IPL. Before the start of IPL 2023, another revelation was made by Indian batter Virat Kohli over MS Dhoni.
Virat was struggling with poor form before the Asia Cup 2022 last year. At that time, he was not scoring consistently, but he did not lose courage in those difficult times and faced challenges. He was also facing many criticisms on social media, but his wife, Anushka Sharma, supported him. Apart from this, former Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni also played a role in encouraging King Kohli.
Speaking to the “RCB Podcast Season 2”, Kohli said, “What is interesting is that throughout this phase, apart from Anushka, who has been the biggest source of strength for me because she has been with me throughout this whole time and she has seen me very closely as how have I felt, things that I have gone through, the kind of things that have happened…the only person who, apart from my childhood coach and family…genuinely reached out to me has been MS Dhoni.”
Virat Kohli said during this podcast that MS Dhoni spoke to me during my difficult times in 2022 apart from my wife Anushka and for me to have a true bond with Dhoni is nothing less than a blessing.
“He reached out to me and you can rarely contact him. If I call him on any random day, 99% he will not pick up (the phone), because he does not look at the phone. So, for him to reach out to me…twice it has happened now and one of the things that he’d mentioned in the message while reaching out to me was that: ‘when you are expected to be strong and looked at as a strong individual people forget to ask how are you doing?
He added, “So, it (Dhoni’s words) hit home for me because I have always been looked at as very confident, mentally very strong, who can endure any circumstances and find a way and show us way. Sometimes, you realize that at any given point in life as a human being you need to take a couple of steps backward, understand how you are doing, how your wellbeing is placed.”
“So, there are not many places for the people who have played the game for a long period, as strong individuals, they can go and explain in a way that the other person can understand. That’s why I mentioned this particular incident because MS Dhoni knows exactly what is going on; he understands it because he has been there himself.” Virat further added on MS Dhoni.
