Well-known cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle thinks that right now, India’s bowling attack is better than their batting as they head into a five-match Test series against England. The team, led by Shubman Gill, kicks off their tour in England on June 20. Bhogle mentioned that India’s batters haven’t really been tested much in English conditions, so he feels the bowlers have the edge. Still, he sees this series as a great chance for the Indian batting lineup to step up, especially since they won’t have the experience of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
He said, With India, I actually think the bowling is stronger at this stage. I hope that doesn’t stay the case and the batting comes through—Yashasvi and Rahul could have a solid partnership, Gill could find his rhythm, and Pant could return to form. He also reflected on getting used to not having Kohli in the mix, similar to when people started realizing that Tendulkar’s time was ending. Bhogle noted that in cricket, great players leave, but new talent comes in, and that’s something to look forward to.
Regarding the bowling, he believes Bumrah will be key in England and also mentioned Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna as players who could shine. He pointed out that India’s batting could struggle a bit in those conditions. That’s just my view for now. I’m eager to be proven wrong since it’s early in the series. With Bumrah around, even off the field, he can really make an impact. He also spoke highly of experienced players like Shami and Ashwin and noted how Siraj has been a consistent performer, even if he doesn’t get as much attention. Prasidh Krishna has potential, and he liked what he saw from Akash Deep in Australia, thinking these conditions could suit him. Plus, Sourav Ganguly has mentioned Arshdeep Singh, and if the pitch is dry, Kuldeep could be in play too.
