The 15th edition of the Asia Cup will start on 27th August and for that, all eyes are on Virat Kohli as he approaches to gain form. After IPL 2022, Kohli was there with Team India for the England Tour but things did not go in their favor as he struggled badly for the runs there.
After the England Tour, everyone speculated that Kohli would play in the West Indies series but the former captain was seen to rest for the entire series. Not only this, but Kohli also made himself available for the 3-match ODI series against Zimbabwe.
Former Pakistani leg spinner Danish Kaneria who comes every day with his thoughts on cricket has now raised questions over Virat Kohli by targeting IPL. While talking to India Today, Kaneria said that to focus on International games, Kohli should have missed some IPL fixtures. Skipping some IPL games would have provided him some good time to regain his form.
While speaking to India Today, Kaneria said, “The only thing is that Virat Kohli is struggling and the time period has gone too far. It’s like three years and all the dilemmas. After the 2021 T20 World Cup, he lost his captaincy (in ODIs), and then the board issues and statements came into the media. Too much happened. I think he needs to focus more on cricket, on his batting and if he wants to play for a few more years he needs to perform.”
He further said, “I think he has done wrong by missing international matches. He should have skipped some IPL games but should not have skipped international cricket because international cricket could have brought him back into the form. The five T20Is against West Indies were crucial for him and he should have come up and played in that series.”
