Harry Brook Shatters Records With Historic Double Century

Harry Brook double century

Harry Brook needed just 114 balls to tear down the world record for the fastest double century in men’s ODI cricket. Against Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi, the England captain smashed 202 off 116 deliveries, overtook Shubman Gill and joined Chris Gayle in one of international cricket’s rarest clubs.

His innings featured 21 fours and 10 sixes, powering England to 429/4. But it was his extraordinary acceleration after reaching his hundred that turned a big innings into a historic one.

Harry Brook Breaks Shubman Gill’s World Record

Brook completed his century in 75 balls. At that stage, even a finish around 160 or 170 would have represented a commanding innings. He went much further, scoring his second hundred in just 39 deliveries.

He reached 200 off 114 balls, beating Gill’s world record by three deliveries. The Indian batter had set the previous mark of 117 balls against West Indies on September 30, 2026. Just 22 days later, Brook took it away.

England’s First ODI Double-Centurion

Brook also became the first England men’s batter to score an ODI double century.

His 202 surpassed Ben Stokes’ national record of 182 against New Zealand at The Oval in 2023. In one innings, Brook gave England both its first double-centurion and a new highest individual score in the format.

Brook Joins Chris Gayle in the Rare 300–200–100 Club

The double century completed another remarkable achievement: Brook became only the second men’s player, after Chris Gayle, to score a triple century in Tests, a double century in ODIs and a century in T20 Internationals.

Brook already had a Test best of 317 against Pakistan and a T20I hundred to his name. His maiden ODI double century completed the set.

This was an achievement matched rather than a record broken, but its rarity makes it special. It demands the endurance to bat beyond 300 in Tests, the sustained aggression to reach 200 in an ODI and the scoring speed to make a T20I hundred. Brook now has all three.
