Hardik Pandya gets reprimanded by BCCI due to slow over rate offence

Hardik Pandya, captain of the Mumbai Indians, and his team received heavy fines for going too slowly with their overs. Meanwhile, Ashish Nehra, the head coach of the Gujarat Titans, also faced a fine and a demerit point for actions that went against the spirit of the game during their IPL match. The game ended late at night at Wankhede Stadium after rain disrupted play, with MI losing to GT by three wickets due to the Duckworth-Lewis method.

Since it was the second time this season Pandya’s team was cited for a slow over rate, he was fined Rs 24 lakh. The other players, including the impact player and concussion substitute, were all fined either Rs 6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever was less.

Nehra’s specific behavior wasn’t detailed, but he seemed pretty upset during the game, which had several rain delays, and was seen talking animatedly with the umpires. He was fined 25% of his match fees and got a demerit point for his conduct. He admitted to the offense and accepted the match referee’s punishment. For these Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the referee’s decision is final.
