Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya praised his star allrounder Will Jacks after he delivered a great performance against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Wankhede Stadium. Jacks helped the team grab two important points and move up to seventh on the points table. He shone in the match with figures of 2/14 and scored 36 runs off 26 balls, leading Mumbai to their second win in a row in IPL 2025.
Earlier in the season, Jacks had scores of 11, 16, 5, 22, and 1*, and had taken just one wicket in the opening match against Chennai Super Kings. But on Thursday, he managed to take out key players Travis Head and Ishan Kishan.
That’s the cool thing about Jacks. He can field like a pro, bowl essential overs, and he’s explosive at batting. That’s why he’s in the team, Pandya said after the match. He added, “We believe in him. I’m thrilled he came through today. When we needed 42 runs from 42 balls, we thought it was a tricky situation. We told him to take his time and not get too carried away.
Jacks played a key role with his 36 runs and strong bowling performance, while opener Ryan Rickelton contributed a solid 31 and Suryakumar Yadav hit 26 off 15 balls as well. The Mumbai bowlers were sharp and executed their plans well, with Jasprit Bumrah going 4 overs for 21 runs and Trent Boult taking 1 wicket for 29 runs.
Earlier in the game, Abhishek Sharma tried swinging at the first ball but edged it, and Jacks couldn’t make the catch. MI’s next match is against Chennai Super Kings at home on Sunday, April 20.
