A total of 16 ODIs, with 510 runs to his credit, came good for the keeper-batter who marks Samson’s presence in the term starred against Sri Lanka in July 2021. The types of contests amongst him were converted to include: Paarl was the recent city where the 56.66 was laid down as his stupendous batting average against the recent onslaught with runs going north of 108 to stop South Africa.
But despite the batting form of Samson in the one-day cricket, he has missed out on selection for the forthcoming two series. Harbhajan Singh has shared his opinion on the sanctioning, as he feels that the number of runs made by the Kerala lad in these formats are not being accepted.
‘I don’t feel really happy about him. He scores runs, but we are dropping him. Therefore, we have to have only 15 players anyway, so I believe that, on merit, his batting was suited to have an average of 55-56, without another wicketkeeper so to say. So, when we’re talking about picking him, we should consider “Who do you take out?” There is a place for him, one can be made,’ Harbhajan told Switch.
The wicketkeeper-batter entrusted with the responsibilities of the ICC Tournament is Rishabh Pant, backed up by KL Rahul. Rahul had to stand in for Pant to keep wickets at every time in the year 2023 as Pant had met with an accident on the road that caused multiple injuries giving him an extensive lay-off period.
Another player whom Harbhajan pointed out regarding a surprising insult should be Yuzvendra Chahal. He remarked since this great cricketer from Haryana has two left-arm spinners, he should be selected instead of one of them.
While expressing his opinions regarding Yuzvendra Chahal’s exclusion from the team, Harbhajan also stated that the cricketer from Haryana should have been included instead, possibly in place of two left-arm spinners.
“Sanju is not, Yuzvendra Chahal is also not there. You have a four-spin combination where you have two who are left-arm. You could have included a leg-spinner as a variation, too. Chahal is an excellent bowler. I don’t know what he did wrong that he was not a part of this team.”
He last played a T20I match for India when he faced the West Indies during the tour in August.
