Star Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell remembers the surprising moment when Pat Cummins after receiving the World Cup trophy from Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Ahmedabad, stood awkwardly on the stage. Maxwell described the incident as ‘funny,’ joking that it felt like it lasted for 10 minutes.
After the trophy presentation by PM Modi and Australia’s Deputy PM Richard Marles to Pat Cummins, they left the stage to extend their congratulations to Aussies. After this, the Australian captain found himself standing alone on the stage, waiting for his teammates to join him in lifting the World Cup trophy. This moment from Cummins on the stage quickly turned into a meme on social media.
Talking to the Sydney Morning Herald, Maxwell said, “It was quite funny watching the videos of the post-match presentation where he shook Modi’s hand and was stuck there on the podium,” he said. “It felt like that lasted for about 10 minutes, him just standing there with the trophy waiting for the group to come on. But he dealt with it with class. He didn’t make a big song and dance about it, [he] just thought ‘you know what, I’ll wait here, be respectful.’ Not everyone would’ve dealt with that like he did.”
Pat Cummins was one of the pioneers for the Australian team in the final against India at Narendra Modi Stadium, Gujarat. In the match, Cummins did not concede a single boundary and he took the important wickets of Shreyas Iyer and Virat Kohli.
