Punjab Kings’ allrounder had a rough day at the bat in the ongoing IPL 2025, despite the team securing another solid win. Maxwell scored just 1 run off 2 balls against Chennai Super Kings on Tuesday before getting out to Ravichandran Ashwin. He was fined 25% of his match fee by the BCCI for breaking the IPL code of conduct, and he received a demerit point on his record.
The BCCI said, The Punjab Kings allrounder admitted to the Level 1 offense under article 2.2 for abusing equipment during the match and accepted the Match Referee’s decision.
So, why was Maxwell punished? He was found guilty of breaking article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which covers actions outside normal cricket behavior, like hitting or kicking the stumps, or causing damage to the advertising boards or other fixtures. For instance, a player might swing their bat out of frustration and end up damaging something.
Even though he didn’t make much of a mark with the bat, Maxwell is still doing well with his spin bowling. He took the important wicket of CSK’s opener Rachin Ravindra, who scored 36 runs off 23 balls with six fours.
Batting first, PBKS scored an impressive 219/6, thanks in part to a record-breaking century from Priyansh Arya, who hit 103 runs off 42 balls, including seven fours and nine sixes, even after the top order struggled. Shashank Singh added a quick 52 runs off 36 balls, while Marco Jansen chipped in with 34 runs off just 19 balls. CSK responded with 201/5.
