Glenn Maxwell achieves this elusive milestone in T 20 cricket

Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell has joined the ranks of top players like his teammates David Warner and Aaron Finch, Indian star Rohit Sharma, and England’s Jos Buttler by hitting his eighth century in T20 cricket. He achieved this milestone while playing for Washington Freedom against Los Angeles Knight Riders in the Major League Cricket match in Oakland. Known as the ‘Big Show’ for his explosive batting, Maxwell scored an impressive unbeaten 106 runs off just 49 balls, including two boundaries and 13 sixes, giving him a strike rate of 216.33. He’s stepping up as captain in place of Steve Smith, who led the team to victory last year.

This innings also pushed Maxwell over the 10,500-run mark in T20 cricket, along with 178 wickets to his name. He’s the first player to reach the combination of 10,500 runs, over 170 wickets, and more than five T20 centuries. In terms of T20 centuries, he is now tied with Warner, Finch, Rohit, Buttler, and Michael Klinger, all of whom have eight centuries. The record for most T20 centuries belongs to Chris Gayle, who hit 22 in 463 matches, followed by Babar Azam with 11 and both Rilee Rossouw and Virat Kohli, each with nine.

In this match, Washington Freedom chose to bat first after winning the toss. Mitchell Owen had a quick-fire innings, scoring 32 runs off 11 balls before the team struggled at 68/4. That’s when Maxwell took charge, hitting Jason Holder for 26 runs in the final over to reach his century and push his team to a total of 208/5. So far in MLC 2025, Maxwell has scored 149 runs in three innings, averaging 149.00 with a strike rate over 204, with previous scores of 38* and 5. His team has had one win and one loss under his captaincy so far.
