“Gets aggressive at times…” Wasim Akram gives a shocking verdict on Gautam Gambhir as candidate for team India’s next head Coach

The search for the next head coach of the Indian cricket team has apparently begun, with Rahul Dravid having confirmed he will not be reapplying for the role. Numerous names, including former Australia batsman Justin Langer, former India cricketer VVS Laxman, and Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming, have been making the rounds. One such figure is Gautam Gambhir, the coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders and a former cricket player for India. Gambhir is a well-known cricketer who has already stirred controversy with his direct remarks. 
 
Wasim Akram, a legendary bowler for Pakistan, supported Gambhir as the “best candidate” and stated that, should he be selected, he would infuse the team with a newfound “aggression.”
 
“Yes, he truly is the best applicant. That is contingent upon Gautam’s acceptance. Additionally, he abandoned politics because it was too time-consuming. It’s a labor-intensive task. Being highly intelligent, he realized that it wasn’t an easy task. “He has two beautiful daughters,” Akram remarked in a Sportskeeda conversation.
 
“GG is incredibly easy to use. Simple to understand. I am not a challenging individual. However, he speaks with clarity, directness, and conviction—qualities that are not typical of Indian cricket culture. We say things in our society that are not offensive to others.
However, GG has a tendency to express his disapproval directly to you. It’s his quality, and it makes him popular with everyone. He might be aggressive at times, but that is just who he is. He will contribute the same level of aggression to the team, but whether or not he accepts the position will determine everything.”
 
Since KKR was the first team to secure a berth in the Top 4, Gambhir has played a key role in leading the team to the IPL 2024 playoffs. Previously, as captain, Gambhir guided KKR to two IPL championships in 2012 and 2014.
