Before the five-match Test series against England, Indian cricket team’s head coach Gautam Gambhir visited Maa Kamakhya temple in Guwahati on Monday for some prayers. This visit comes as the team gears up for the series, which is part of the 2025-2027 ICC World Test Championship. The Kamakhya temple, about 7 km from Guwahati, is one of the largest Shakti shrines in India and is located on the Nilachal hills.
The series is scheduled from June to August 2025, with matches set to be held at Headingley (Leeds), Edgbaston (Birmingham), Lord’s (London), Old Trafford (Manchester), and The Oval (London). This will be India’s first bilateral series since Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement from Test cricket earlier this month.
Recently, Shubman Gill was named the new Test captain for India, while Rishabh Pant will assist him as vice-captain. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the squad for this highly anticipated series. Abhimanyu Easwaran has been included in the squad. He’s been a standout in domestic cricket for Bengal, with impressive stats over 101 first-class games, including 27 centuries.
After Kohli’s retirement, some young players like Sai Sudarshan and Karun Nair have been brought in to strengthen the middle order. In the bowling lineup, Jasprit Bumrah will lead the attack, joined by Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, and Shardul Thakur.
Here’s the Indian Test squad for the England series: Shubman Gill (c), Rishabh Pant (vc), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Nitish Reddy, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Arshdeep Singh, Kuldeep Yadav.
