Gautam Gambhir shares insights about his relationship with Virat Kohli

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir recently talked about his friendship with batting star Virat Kohli. Although they’ve had some heated moments on the field, especially during a match between the Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bengaluru in IPL 2023, Gambhir set the record straight about their relationship.

During that match, Gambhir, who was mentoring LSG, got into a fiery exchange with Virat after a tense moment between Virat and Naveen-ul-Haq. Following the game, Gambhir was seen talking passionately to Virat, with teammates like KL Rahul having to step in to cool things down.

At the ABP News Summit, Gambhir cleared up any misconceptions, stating, “We were friends, we are friends, and we will stay friends. On the field, there’s passion for your team, but off the field, it’s a different story. People say things to get attention. He emphasized that fans should appreciate all that Virat has done for Indian cricket.

Gambhir humorously shared that he wishes the BCCI would stop posting about their interactions on social media, saying, “It’s just two Delhi boys having fun. If that’s a problem, I’ll ask the BCCI to stop.” He also joked that if he could be any cricketer for a day, he’d choose Virat for his amazing fitness.

Since taking over as head coach from Rahul Dravid, Gambhir has faced challenges but led the team to success, including winning the Champions Trophy earlier this year.
