Gautam Gambhir is India’s head coach and he praised his captain Rohit Sharma calling him “a great guy” who earns respect in the dressing room. Rohit Sharma made his Test debut in 2013 against the West Indies whereafter he has played 59 long-format matches so far over the last ten years and as of now has made 4138 runs from 101 innings at an average of 45.47 runs. The first Test match between India and Bangladesh will be held on September 19th, 2020 in MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai while the second one will be hosted in Kanpur starting from September 27th 2020.
At present, Team India occupies the top position in World Test Championship (WTC) standings with a point percentage of 68.52%. Their upcoming WTC series includes home two Tests against Bangladesh and three Tests against New Zealand as well as five tests against Australia away.
In a conversation with Jio Cinema, Gambhir disclosed that he has maintained a “fabulous” relationship with Rohit.
“We have had a number of conversations together. I think at the end of the day, it is the captain who owns the team because he is its face on the field. What I do, along with all those who support us, is to ensure that we help captains in every way we can. Of course there would be disagreements but whatever decision should be made belongs to him alone. The way Rohit leads and gains respect in locker rooms matters most hence he is held in high esteem by others too, these are some of the traits expected from good leaders. If anything our personal interactions when we played side by side were wonderful experiences for me. He was always such an awesome person regardless of where he went or whatever happened around him – this should not stop even today,” said Gambhir.
Currently, Bangladesh is enjoying an excellent form after they blanked Pakistan 2-0 in their initial test series on Pakistan’s turf. The Bengal Tigers triumphed over the opponent completely by 10 wickets in the first game and later claimed a six-wicket win in the second one.
