From Virat Kohli To Mithali Raj, A Look At The Reaction On The Inaugural Announcement For Women’s IPL

The Women’s Premier League, the highly anticipated women’s version of a franchise-based T20 competition, got a total bid of Rs 4669.99 crores for five franchises on Wednesday.

Adani Sportsline, Royal Challengers, and JSW, who share control of Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League, were among the successful team bidders. The owners of a franchise based in Lucknow, Capri Global Holdings Pvt Ltd, also joined them. Mumbai Indians, through Indiawin Sports Pvt Ltd, acquired the franchise from Mumbai with a bid of Rs 912.99 crores.

After this historic moment in IPL, Cricketers and members of Indian Cricket Management shared their happiness and gratitude for this female-centric league.

BCCI secretary Jay Shah tweeted, “Today is a historic day in cricket as the bidding for teams of inaugural WPL broke the records of the inaugural Men’s IPL in 2008.”

The superstar of the Indian women’s team Harmanpreet Kaur also took to Twitter where she wrote, “WPL is not just a game changer for women’s cricket in India, but a revolution! Kudos to @BCCI and @JayShah for their vision & commitment to promoting & uplifting the women’s game. Exciting times are ahead for Indian cricket.”
