On Monday, May 12, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the updated schedule for IPL 2025. The league had to pause for a week starting May 8 due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan. The 58th match of the season, which was between the Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, got interrupted halfway in Dharamsala, and everyone involved had to be moved to Delhi on a special train.
According to the new schedule, the IPL league stage will wrap up on May 27, and the final match is set for June 3. This is the first time since 2014 that the IPL final is taking place in June, and it’s also on a weekday, which is pretty unusual.
There’s a tighter gap now between the IPL final and the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, just a week apart. That means there will be some questions about player availability from Australia and South Africa. Notable players like Pat Cummins and Travis Head from SRH, as well as others from different teams are participating this season. Teams are expected to announce their squads on Tuesday, May 13.
Also, the IPL will overlap with the ODI series between England and the West Indies starting on May 29. Several West Indies players have been selected, and while England hasn’t named their squad yet, some players might face scheduling conflicts.
Lastly, there’s a first four-day match between India A and England Lions lined up for May 30, but it looks like that series will likely be postponed. We’ll have to wait and see how franchises manage their overseas players for the rest of the season.
