Mohammad Yousuf, Pakistan’s former Test captain, has stepped down as batting coach at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore. The Pakistan Cricket Board hasn’t made an official announcement yet, but Yousuf confirmed he sent in his resignation last week and that it was accepted. He mentioned it was a personal choice and didn’t want to say more.
Yousuf had been with the NCA for several years and also coached the senior and U19 teams at different times. He was part of the Pakistan squad during their tour to New Zealand in April but wasn’t around when the team faced Bangladesh in a T20 series at home last month.
A source close to the situation revealed that Yousuf was unhappy after the PCB appointed Aaqib Javed as Director of the NCA, believing he deserved a promotion due to his experience. Before Aaqib, Nadeem Khan held the director position. Aaqib has taken on several important roles with the PCB over the past year, including senior selector and interim head coach. After the New Zealand tour, he became the NCA Director while still acting as a selector.
The source also mentioned that some respected figures in the board are frustrated because they feel they’re being used while some players get undue advantages even with poor performances.
