The whole arena came to a standstill, as a major ‘Kohli-mania’ unfolded across the turf of Arun Jaitley stadium on Thursday, as the iconic batter played at the prestigious Ranji Trophy after being absent from the scene for a good 13 years. The crowd was mind-boggling, providing for unprecedented sights at the venue for nothing more than Kohli appearing for domestic cricket. In fact, the broadcaster was not supposed to live stream the match between Delhi and Railways, but operational changes were imposed in fitting to the high demand for Kohli’s match.
In fact, as thousands of onlookers packed the Arun Jaitley stadium to catch a glimpse of Kohli, the question over current Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir’s alleged attempt to end the ‘superstar culture’ in the country came. In fact, how could the former RCB star Shreevats Goswami think of that would be possible in bringing a cultural shift?
“How will you do it? And why? The superstar culture or the superstar himself is a crowd puller, there is no two ways about it. You can actually put a check on prima donna culture. As a nation, we look up to superstars,” said Goswami on X (formerly Twitter).
Kohli-mania was felt even on the day of the match, as people started arriving at the stadium from the early hours with long lines of fans in a frenzy. The match in question also had several other Indian international stars turning up to play besides.
