Jason Gillespie, the former head coach for Pakistan’s red-ball cricket team, said he’s still waiting to get paid by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). He shared this on his Instagram after an interview with local media, mentioning that there are some payments that the PCB hasn’t cleared yet. Gillespie and South African coach Gary Kirsten were brought on board in April 2024 for two years, but both had to resign just six months later when the board took back a lot of the power they’d given them, including a spot on the national selection committee.
This is the first time either of them has talked about money with the PCB. In one of his stories, Gillespie said, I’m still waiting on some payment from the PCB. He also remarked, “Gary Kirsten and I were sold the dream of building a team. Losing a game, and all of a sudden, that gets thrown out the window.”
Meanwhile, the PCB recently called for applications for head coach and director of their high-performance center in Lahore after former Test spinner Nadeem Khan resigned. Aaqib Javed, a former Test pacer, has been stepping in as the interim head coach since both Kirsten and Gillespie left last year. A source said Aaqib is interested in the director role rather than continuing as head coach. The PCB has set a deadline of May 5 for new applicants for the head coach position. “It seems like this time the PCB is leaning toward hiring a lower-profile foreign coach,” the source added.
