Former India captain Sourav Ganguly is all for the Chennai Super Kings bringing back MS Dhoni as captain. With their regular captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, out due to a fractured elbow, the CSK management decided to reappoint Dhoni, who has led the team to five IPL titles before. There were some questions about his form this season, but that didn’t stop CSK from choosing him again.
Ganguly spoke about Dhoni’s ability to still play well, saying his age isn’t really an issue given his experience. So far, CSK has only won one out of five matches this season, and Ganguly believes having Dhoni back at the helm is smart. “MS Dhoni can still hit sixes; I saw him do it the other day. Sure, he’s 43, and he’s not the same player he was in 2005, but he can still pack a punch, Ganguly said at an event, according to PTI. “If he’s going to play for CSK, he should be the captain. MS Dhoni, the captain, is a whole different story.”
Dhoni holds the record for being the most successful captain in IPL history, while Ruturaj has led CSK in 19 matches, winning eight of them and losing 11. They currently sit ninth in the points table and are up against Kolkata Knight Riders next.
