Aakash Chopra, the former India opener, talked about reports that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wants to trade for Sanju Samson from Rajasthan Royals (RR). A Cricbuzz report says that RR captain Samson has drawn trade interest from several IPL teams, such as five-time champions CSK.
The report quoted an anonymous CSK official involved in making decisions as saying, We are watching Sanju closely. He’s an Indian batter, a keeper, and can open. If he’s available, we’ll consider adding him to our group. We haven’t decided who we’d trade for him because the talks haven’t reached that point. But we are, in general, interested.
The player and teams haven’t verified or suggested that the rumors are true. Chopra claims that if talks with CSK happen, RR might request an experienced player in return. He suggested that Ravindra Jadeja or Ravichandran Ashwin could be involved if the two teams make a trade.
Chopra said on his YouTube channel, Will this trade occur? CSK is interested, but discussions haven’t reached the stage where they’re talking about possible trade names. Rajasthan might want Ashwin or Jadeja in return. If the trade advances that far, they have the right to ask.
Chopra also explained why CSK’s interest in Samson is logical.
A CSK official said they’re interested and eager. They believe Samson would be great because he can keep and bat, and they need plans for when MS Dhoni is no longer playing. So, he could be a good choice, he noted.
It’s unknown if the player trade will include another big player or be an all-cash deal if it occurs. Samson has been with the Royals since 2018 and became the team’s captain in 2021. Sanju Samson is the only player to have scored more than 50 runs in the first game of a season for six seasons in a row while playing for Rajasthan Royals.
