The player guidelines for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 edition are ready. Each of the 10 franchises has been allowed to keep a maximum of six players. i.e. the mega auction of IPL 2025 will be conducted in the last week of November or the first week of December. As the teams will know their retention players for this auction, it will be difficult for the teams to decide on the non-retained players. The total auction money available for the franchises has been fixed at INR 120 Crore for IPL 2025. In addition to auction purview, incremental performance pay and match fees will also contribute to the overall salary cap.
Days before the retention process was to begin, cricketer turned analyst Aakash Chopra opined that if and when the Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul goes up for auction, he will fetch a massive sum.
“First is about KL Rahul. He is the face of the franchise and you would want to make him the captain. Rs 18 crore is what you will get him for. Being realistic, it is Rs 18 crore when he enters the auction. Anyway, you never let go of the captain. That remains significant for continuity,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Aakash Chopra had a quirky view on Mayank Yadav who plays for LSG and has been picked in the India squad for the Bangladesh T20Is. “They would have certainly wanted to keep him but if he gets the India cap, keeping him does not serve any purpose. At that ppoint, theRight To Match card can be utilized,” he said.
Before this season, a match fee has been added for the first time in the entire IPL history. The Playing member (Including the Impact Player) will earn a match fee of INR 7.5 Lakhs for every match participated. This will be alongside his retained amount. An Overseas Player will have to sign up for the Big Auction. If the overseas player fails to sign up, he will not be allowed to sign up for the subsequent year players’ auction.
A player who enters the player auction registers and if selected in the auction, declares ius absence before the commencement of play in the tournament shall be suspended from participating in the tournament and player auction for two Seasons. If the player has not recently participated in Test, ODI or T20 matches and/or does not have a Central Contract with the BCCI for five calendar years immediately preceding the year of the applicable Season, then the capped Indian player shall be deemed an uncapped player. This restriction shall be confined to players from India. This Impact Player Regulation will remain in effect for the 2025 to 2027 cycle.
