Following India’s painful loss to England in the third Test at Lord’s, Madan Lal, a former star of the Indian cricket team, encouraged Virat Kohli to come out of retirement. India was in a good spot to take a 2-1 lead in the five-game series but could not win. Kohli had announced his retirement from Test cricket just before the series. Madan Lal stated that it would not be wrong for him to change his mind and asked the veteran player to share his experience and love for the sport with younger players.
Madan Lal told CricketPredicta that Virat Kohli’s love for Indian cricket was unmatched and that he hopes he returns to Test cricket. He said there is nothing wrong with returning and that Kohli should come back in the next series if not this one.
Madan Lal believes Kohli should reverse his retirement because he can easily play for another year or two. He added that it’s about passing on experience to the youngsters and that it’s not too late for Kohli to come back.
Michael Vaughan, a former England captain, said that Shubman Gill did not look as technically tight and lacked his usual calm when he batted in the second innings of the third Test. He also praised the team’s fighting spirit on the final day at Lord’s.
Gill has been in great form this series, scoring a century in the first Test at Headingley and breaking many records on his way to a century and a double century in Birmingham, which India won by 336 runs.
He only scored 16 and 6 runs in the Lord’s Test, which India lost by 22 runs despite a comeback by Ravindra Jadeja and the tail-enders.
Vaughan wrote in his column in ‘The Telegraph’ that when things got tough on the third evening, it brought out the best in England for the rest of the game. He also said that Shubman Gill did not look as technically sound or calm as usual when he came out to bat on the fourth evening, but his team fought hard on Monday in a great Test.
