Former Indian Cricketer Wants Tilak Varma To Be Included In India’s Asia Cup Squad

Renowned cricket analyst Aakash Chopra has praised Tilak Varma for his exceptional all-round contributions during the recently concluded T20I series between India and the West Indies. Chopra, a former Indian opener, believes that Varma’s performances warrant his inclusion in the Men in Blue’s squad for the upcoming Asia Cup.

Varma showcased his batting prowess by scoring a brisk 27 off 18 balls in India’s final T20I against the West Indies, contributing to the team’s total of 165/9. Additionally, he made his presence felt as a bowler, dismissing Nicholas Pooran with only his second delivery. Despite his efforts, India could not prevent the West Indies from securing an eight-wicket victory, clinching the series 3-2.

In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra highlighted the positive aspects of India’s batting performance in the series decider, with a special focus on Tilak Varma. Chopra commented, “Tilak Varma’s story is that he hit 19 runs in the sixth over. When he plays, he plays extremely well.” He also commended Varma’s display of skills across batting and bowling during the match.

Notably, Tilak Varma’s all-round capabilities have left a strong impression on Aakash Chopra. He stated, “Tilak Varma also bowled. He hit a six off the second ball he faced (on his T20I debut) and dismissed Nicholas Pooran off the second ball he bowled. He is an off-spinner and bats left-handed.”

Chopra expressed his belief that Tilak Varma is trying to earn a spot in the Asia Cup team and emphasized that he should be considered for selection. Given his consistent performances, he further hinted at the possibility of Varma’s inclusion even in the upcoming T20 World Cup.
