Both India and Bumrah are sweating ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025. The ace pacer sustained a back injury during India’s Test series against Australia that concluded last month. While Bumrah was recovering from it, the Board of Control for Cricket in India announced his inclusion in the Champions Trophy squad, with a caveat stating that his availability for the third ODI against England hinges on fitness. As a final preparation for the ICC event, India will play a three-match ODI series against England.
The management subsequently included Varun Chakaravarthy to the ODI squad after his T20I exploits against England. However, the revised squad for the third ODI against England does not include Bumrah’s name, thereby raising further doubts over his involvement in the Champions Trophy.
While fears persist that Bumrah may not show up for the tournament, former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has suggested to team management that right-arm pacer Harshit Rana should make his debut.
Rohit Sharma said on Wednesday, on the eve of the first ODI against England, that the team is waiting for reports about some scans done on the pacer with another scheduled for June 25.
“We are awaiting some scan reports, and once we get them, we will have more clarity on Bumrah and whether he will be available for the third ODI against England,” Rohit said.
