Former England great tears off Bazball after England’s flop show against Pakistan.

Former England cricketer Geoffrey Boycott has criticized the batters of the England cricket team and labeled them as ‘flat track bullies’ after they went down 2-1 in a series against Pakistan. After winning the first Test in Multan, England lost the second and third Test, revealing a chink in their armory to counter spin bowling attack. Spinners took all 40 English wickets in the second and third Tests with spinners Sajid Khan and Noman Ali taking 39 wickets in total. Boycott was quite vocal about the England batting and the aggressive batting style called ‘Bazball’ introduced by coach Brendon McCullum.

‘England are flat-track bullies on good batting pitches, there is no doubt about that. Adjustments are needed on spinning pitches,’ Boycott wrote in his column in the Telegraph UK.

He took the example of Harry Brook to support his assertion, stating that; he later looked poor after scoring a fantastic triple century in the first Test.

‘A perfect example is Brook. He scored a brilliant 317 in the first Test and in the next four innings, he was naive with no idea against spin and totalled 56 runs,’ wrote Boycott.’

After scoring 823 runs in the first Test, England could not reach 300 in an innings during the second and third Tests. England scored below 150 (144 and 112) in the second innings of both of these last two Tests.

Boycott feared, however, that these outcomes would soon be swept under the carpet as England would head back to the subcontinent for a tour three years after this in 2027.

“The saddest part is that there are no spin tours of India or Pakistan for almost 3 more years, so our players will be back to being hailed as the greatest batsmen England has produced by some fans. All I say to that is you must be kidding.” wrote Boycott.

The loss in the series for England placed them at the 6th position in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle table and severely hampered their prospects of qualifying for the WTC final.
