In the second India versus England Test, Akash Deep became India’s key player. The team, led by Shubman Gill, won by 336 runs. Akash Deep, a 28-year-old fast bowler from Bihar who plays Ranji Trophy for Bengal, has played eight Tests and taken 25 wickets. He secured 10 wickets in the Edgbaston Test. His showing in the second Test makes it very likely he will play in the third Test at Lord’s.
Akash Deep faced hardships as he grew as a cricketer. Former Bengal coach Arun Lal remembered Akash Deep’s difficult times.
Lal told Sports Now that Akash Deep used to live in a Cricket Association of Bengal dormitory that was terrible. Lal is sure it’s better now, but Akash Deep never complained about the food or any problems he faced for three or four years. Lal found it unbelievable. He was shocked to see how unbearable the dormitory was and thought people could get sick from living there.
Arun Lal shared that he was impressed by Akash Deep’s talent from the start. When I joined the Bengal team, Akash was a possible player. When I saw him, I knew he was special, said Arun Lal.
He had speed, endurance, strength, and, most importantly, he never complained.
Lal mentioned that Akash Deep was always physically strong, stronger than his Bengal teammates. His work ethic is amazing. He would share videos of himself running up a mountain near his village for training. He would run up and down in an area surrounded by jungle to train when he was in his village.
