Finn Allen from New Zealand had an incredible game in the opening match of Major League Cricket 2025, a T20 tournament happening in the U.S. While playing for the San Francisco Unicorns against the Washington Freedom at the Oakland Coliseum, he scored an astonishing 151 runs off just 51 balls. His strike rate was over 296, and he hit five fours along with a whopping 19 sixes, giving the Washington bowlers a tough time.
In this innings, Allen set the record for the fastest 150 in T20 cricket, reaching it in 49 balls. He also hit his hundred in just 34 balls, which is now the fastest T20 hundred by a Kiwi player and the quickest in the history of the tournament. With those 19 sixes, he broke the previous record held by Chris Gayle and Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan, who both hit 18 sixes in their innings.
After the match, Allen reflected on his achievement, saying, It was exciting to make the fastest hundred in MLC history. I got off to a good start, found the boundaries regularly, and we built good partnerships to get a solid score on the board.
Interestingly, just six months ago, Allen went unsold during the IPL auction, where he had a base price of Rs 2 crore. In that same auction, Rishabh Pant set a record by becoming the most expensive player, sold for Rs 27 crore, followed by Shreyas Iyer for Rs 26.75 crore. Venkatesh Iyer was retained by Kolkata Knight Riders for Rs 23.75 crore.
