Faf du Plessis drops a massive verdict after Delhi’s loss against Mumbai Indians

Delhi Capitals’ captain Faf du Plessis stood by his team after their tough loss to the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2025. Mumbai’s Jasprit Bumrah and Mitchell Santner took three wickets each, which helped send Delhi packing for just 121 runs, giving Mumbai a comfortable 59-run win at the Wankhede Stadium. With this victory, Mumbai became the last team to make it to the playoffs, joining Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Punjab Kings.

After the match, Du Plessis talked about the team’s effort, saying, We were solid in the field today. The guys really fought hard. The bowlers did their job, even if it was a tough pitch for batting. Still, we let it slip in the last two overs. Cricket is all about momentum, and when they managed to score almost 50 runs in those final overs, it wiped out all the good work we did.

He also praised young player Sameer Rizvi, who scored 39 runs despite the tough conditions, saying, Rizvi showed he has talent. When you’re up against a strong team like this, you’ve got to bring your A-game. For most of the match, we did well, but then we slipped in those last two overs. We really needed a good start with the bat, and we didn’t get it. That pretty much sums up our season; we’ve been inconsistent with either the bat or ball in the last few games.

Du Plessis mentioned the team’s struggles without regular captain Axar Patel, who was ill, and Mitchell Starc, who opted out. Look at how well Mitch Santner bowled—similar style to Axar. He kept it tight, and we could have used Axar on a pitch like this. It’s a shame he was sick. Starc’s a great bowler too, and having a spinner on that pitch is so valuable. I believe in keeping the momentum going; when you’re on top, you have to hold onto it.
