Faf du Plessis’ Candid Assessment of RCB’s Bowling Performance

Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper Faf du Plessis finally admitted that the team doesn’t have enough bowling resources to pose a threat to opponents. Mumbai Indians handed a 7-wicket loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru. After 196 was not enough, RCB captain Faf admitted that they constantly need to post 200+ to get them back in the competition.

In his post-match presentation, Faf du Plessis said, “I feel like, from a batting perspective, we have to push for that 200. We don’t have as many weapons in our bowling. So it comes down to the batting. From a bowling perspective, we have lacked penetration. We have to get them two or three down in the powerplay. It always feels like we are on the back foot after the first four overs.”

Royal Challengers have found themselves struggling in this year’s IPL to defend totals after they failed to pick the right bowlers in the auction. It was a reality for Royal Challengers Bangaluru, as if even 250 was not enough for them to defend.

On the other hand, Faf du Plessis praised Mumbai Indians spearhead Jasprit Bumrah, who picked up a sensational fifer in the match.

Faf du Plessis said, “He has been the difference in the two innings. We put them under pressure, but the one guy, being out there myself, you see him with the ball in his hand. You want to put him under pressure, but the variety does everyone in. He has a really good bouncer and a slower ball. Someone like Malinga was the best bowler in T20 cricket, but Bumrah has taken over the reins. You know you can bring him on and take the wickets, but also be defensive.”
