Faf du Plessis achieves this elusive milestone in ipl leaves behind MS Dhoni and AB De Villiers

Faf du Plessis, who represents Delhi Capitals, has gone past MS Dhoni in an important record of the IPL. This 40-year-old Faf is still very much fit and will be a vital cog in the wheel for the team. His match against Kolkata Knight Riders recently marked his 150th encounter in IPL history and became the second South African after AB de Villiers for crossing the milestone after 184 matches.

Faf also unfurled another record that is also among the oldest to make fifty in the league. At 40 years and 290 days, he is third on the all-time list, just behind Dhoni, who did it at 40 years and 262 days in 2022. The following are the oldest players to hit a fifty or above runs in the IPL:

  • Adam Gilchrist (41 years, 181 days in 2013)
  • Chris Gayle (41 years, 39 days in 2020)
  • Faf du Plessis (40 years, 290 days in 2025)
  • MS Dhoni (40 years, 262 days in 2022)

In this match, Faf opened batting as DC chased a transformed score of 205 from KKR, while they were recovering from a not-so-happy day at the office against Royal Challengers Bangalore. Neither of KKR’s batsmen reached a fifty as Angkrish Raghuvanshi was the highest-scoring batsman with 44 runs off 32 balls, while Rinku Singh added another 36 off 25. For DC, Mitchell Starc was the hero with the ball for the team as took 3 wickets for 43 runs in his four overs.

The line-ups for both teams are:
Delhi Capitals – Faf du Plessis, Abishek Porel (wk), Karun Nair, KL Rahul, Axar Patel (c), Tristan Stubbs, Vipraj Nigam, Mitchell Starc, Kuldeep Yadav, Dushmantha Chameera, Mukesh Kumar.

Kolkata Knight Riders:** Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Sunil Narine, Ajinkya Rahane (c), Venkatesh Iyer, Rinku Singh, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Andre Russell, Rovman Powell, Harshit Rana, Anukul Roy, Varun Chakaravarthy
