Exclusive: Former Sri Lankan Cricketer Who Played For KKR , Arrested For Match Fixing

Shocking news is coming up for Sri Lankan cricket fans and the world of cricket. Former Sri Lanka spinner Sachithra Senanayake was charged on Wednesday in connection with match-fixing allegations following his appearance before the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Sports Ministry.

The cricketer will be taken to court later today. The Colombo Magistrate had previously issued an order according to which the 38-year-old would not be allowed to leave the country for a period of three months.

This action was taken based on instructions from the Attorney General (AG), who directed the Special Investigation Unit (SIU) to file criminal charges against the former cricketer.

As per the allegations, Senanayake is accused of contacting two cricketers during the inaugural edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) in 2020, while he was in Dubai, with the intention of influencing match-fixing.

Sachithra Senanayake had filed for anticipatory bail in 2021 with the Colombo Magistrate to stop his arrest but his request was denied.

The former cricketer who has got 78 international wickets in 73 white-ball matches for Sri Lanka has denied all the allegations.
