After Sunil Gavaskar’s criticism of the England player, former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has also shown the mirror to the English players regarding their availability in the Indian Premier League. Irfan Pathan echoed similar sentiments, expressing disapproval in a tweet from his official X account.
Pathan tweeted after the RR vs PBKS game, highlighting Jos Buttler’s absence from the Royals lineup as he left to join the national side. England is preparing for a T20I series against Pakistan as part of their T20 World Cup warm-up, with Buttler, Sam Curran, and Jonny Bairstow set to join on May 16. Curran mentioned their return home on Thursday. KKR also faced a setback with Phil Salt’s departure ahead of the IPL Playoffs.
Indian legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar also advocated for penalizing players who don’t complete the full season and suggested that boards should not receive their commission.
“I am all for players choosing country before anything else, but having assured various franchises about their availability for the full season, it will be letting down the franchises if they pull out now. The franchises should not only be allowed to deduct a substantial amount from the fee that the player was bought for but also not give the Board, to which the player belongs, the stated 10 percent commission of the fee that each player gets,” Gavaskar stated.
