West Indies has announced a solid squad of 15 players for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2025 in Pakistan, which will take place from April 9 to 19. Unfortunately, Deandra Dottin is out of the tournament after injuring herself during the Women’s Premier League in India and not recovering in time. This is a tough loss for the team since Dottin was the top scorer for West Indies in last year’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
Hayley Matthews will lead the team again. She’s currently ranked among the top 10 players in the ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings. The squad is mostly the same as the one that faced Bangladesh in a recent ODI series, with 12 players retained. Dottin, along with Nerissa Crafton and Djenaba Joseph, will be replaced by Stafanie Taylor, Chinelle Henry, and Rashada Williams.
Matthews expressed confidence in her team’s preparation and chemistry, saying, The team environment feels like a family, and we have all been enjoying ourselves out in the park. Winning this is a big goal for us, and we’re confident in our chances.
Afy Fletcher, who took 10 wickets in the last T20 World Cup, will lead the spin attack with Karishma Ramharack. West Indies finished eighth in the ICC Women’s Championship standings and will compete against Bangladesh, Ireland, Scotland, Thailand, and Pakistan in the qualifiers. The top two teams will earn spots in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 in India, joining automatic qualifiers like Australia and England.
The full squad includes: Hayley Matthews (c), Shemaine Campbelle, Aaliyah Alleyne, Afy Fletcher, Cherry Ann Fraser, Shabika Gajnabi, Jannillea Glasgow, Chinelle Henry, Zaida James, Qiana Joseph, Mandy Mangru, Ashmini Munisar, Karishma Ramharack, Stafanie Taylor, and Rashada Williams.
