‘Don’t Do Captaincy In Leagues, Take Money And Go Home’, Wasim Akram Surprising Advice To Babar Azam

Former Pakistan captain and one of the legends of the game Wasim Akram has given advice to Babar Azam who has been recently pulled out from the captaincy from all three forms of cricket.

After a poor performance in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 organized in India, the 29-year-old cricketer opted to step down from his position. This decision compelled the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to implement significant leadership changes. Shan Masood was appointed as the captain for Test matches, and the role of leading the T20I side was given to the left-arm pacer, Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Akaram suggested that Babar Azam should not play as a captain in any T20 leagues. While having a conversation with Sportskeeda, Akram said that the right-hand batter should only play the league, take his money, and go home. He said that extra responsibilities always generate pressure.

“I had given an idea to Babar Azam a couple of years ago that don’t do captaincy in league cricket. [You’re a] Big player, take your money, play your game, get runs, go home, and then to the next event. Pakistan’s captaincy is alright, but the league brings extra stress without any reason,” said Akram. He has previously worked with Babar at Karachi Kings.

Under the captaincy of Babar Azam, Pakistan only gathered 8 points from 9 games in the tournament.
