‘Doesn’t have to do what he is looking to do’: Sunil Gavaskar’s reaction to Rohit’s batting approach

India is hosting Australia for three match T20I series. In the series opener, India team have to face humiliating loss against Kangaroos. KL Rahul’s constructive innings of 55 runs and Hardik Pandya’s destructive batting of 71*runs in 47 balls helped India to settle a massive total of 209 runs. Australia overhauled the total with four balls to spare and made their first-ever highest successful run chase against men in blue.

India has been struggling for their opening pair; both the openers were a flop in the Asia Cup 2022. In the first match against kangaroos, Rohit Sharma scored 11 runs, attempted to flick over deep-mid wicket, and got caught in the third over. After watching the aggressive batting approach of Rohit Sharma, Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar advised him to take time to settle on the crease in the initial over instead of taking a destructive approach. This approach of Rohit’s was not good for him for a long time.

“With Rohit Sharma, the range of shot that he has, he doesn’t have to do what he is looking to do over here, that is a step down the pitch even before the bowler has released the ball,” Sunil Gavaskar said.

“The way he has been playing T20 cricket before that, his scoring and strike rate has been phenomenal. It’s been terrific. He hasn’t tried to do anything more. Over here, in the last few matches, it just seems to me that he is looking to do a little bit more and, in the process, getting out,” he added.

Rohit Sharma should take the legend words as advice, as he is very precious batter for Indian team and spending some time on the crease will not only help but also will change the Indian fortune.
